About the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens

The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR is a versatile superzoom lens designed for full-frame (FX) Nikon cameras. It covers everything from wide-angle landscapes at 28mm to distant subjects at 300mm, making it ideal for travel, events and everyday shooting when you want to carry just one lens. The Vibration Reduction system helps keep handheld shots sharp, while the Silent Wave Motor provides fast, quiet autofocus with full-time manual override. Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass elements reduce chromatic aberration, and the lens includes a zoom lock switch to prevent barrel creep. On DX-format cameras it offers an equivalent field of view of approximately 42–450mm.

Not compatible with Nikon Z mirrorless cameras unless used with the FTZ mount adapter. Uses 77mm filters.

Questions about this model

Is this lens suitable for full-frame cameras?

Yes, it is designed for Nikon FX (full-frame) cameras and can also be used on DX (APS-C) models, where it gives an equivalent field of view of approximately 42–450mm.

Does the lens have image stabilisation?

Yes, it features Nikon's Vibration Reduction (VR II) system to help reduce camera shake.

Will autofocus work on my Nikon D3400?

Yes. The D3400 does not have a built-in focus motor, but this lens has a Silent Wave Motor, so autofocus will work normally.
