About the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens
The Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM is a fast standard zoom built for Canon's APS-C DSLRs. Its 17–55mm range covers wide-angle to short telephoto, roughly matching the classic 24–70mm view on full frame, making it a strong everyday lens for portraits, events, travel and low light. The constant f/2.8 maximum aperture stays bright throughout the zoom range, so you can keep shutter speeds up and backgrounds blurred. Image Stabilisation reduces the effect of camera shake, and the ring-type USM motor focuses quickly and quietly with full-time manual override. Two UD elements and three aspherical elements help control chromatic aberration and distortion.
