About this model
The Tamron 18-400mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD is the world's first 22.2x superzoom for APS-C DSLRs, covering everything from wide-angle landscapes to distant wildlife in one lens. Its Vibration Compensation (VC) system reduces camera shake, while the High/Low torque-modulated Drive (HLD) autofocus motor delivers fast, quiet focusing. The optical design includes LD and aspherical elements to control aberrations, and the lens has moisture-resistant construction. It's an ideal travel companion for Nikon DX users who want to carry just one lens.

Compatibility
Fits Nikon F-mount DX-format DSLRs. Not suitable for full-frame Nikon cameras in FX mode (will vignette); can be used in DX crop mode on FX bodies. Autofocus works on all Nikon F-mount DSLRs because the lens has a built-in HLD focus motor, including entry-level bodies without a built-in focus motor (e.g., D3000/D5000 series). Uses 72mm filters.
Questions about this model
Is this lens compatible with my Nikon D3500?
It will mount and meter, and autofocus will work because the lens has a built-in HLD focus motor. The D3500 does not need a built-in focus motor for this lens.
Does the Tamron 18-400mm work on full-frame Nikon cameras?
It is designed for APS-C (DX) sensors. On a full-frame Nikon in FX mode it will produce heavy vignetting, so it is not recommended for full-frame use; it can be used in DX crop mode.
What is the maximum magnification for close-up shots?
It offers a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.9 at 400mm, allowing near-macro shots of small subjects.
